New to sewing? Our beginner sewing classes in Rotorua are a warm, friendly place to start. Over eight weeks you will learn the essentials, build real confidence, and make something you are proud to wear. No experience needed.
Term 4 starts up on the 12th October (The first week back of the school term.)
The recommended koha for our 8 week beginners term is $160.
What you will learn
- Using a sewing machine with confidence
- Understanding fabrics, threads, and tools
- Reading and following a sewing pattern
- Fitting a garment to your own measurements
- Core construction and finishing techniques
This term’s project: your one-of-a-kind shirt
In Term 4 2026 you will make a bespoke shirt with a collar and buttons, fitted just for you. You will learn to read a pattern, adjust it to your measurements, and finish a garment you will love. Newer students are supported every step of the way. The more adventurous can customise their design and add personal touches.

These classes suit adults who are brand new to sewing, and anyone wanting a confidence refresh. You will learn hands-on, at your own pace, in a friendly and supportive group.

What it costs
Sewing for Success is a charitable programme, so all class fees are treated as donations. Your koha helps cover the cost of materials, tutors and venue hire.
