Kids 8 Week Class

New to sewing? Our kids sewing classes in Rotorua are a fun, friendly place for young makers aged 8 to 14 to start. Over eight weeks your child will learn the basics of using a sewing machine safely, build real confidence, and make something they are proud of. No experience needed.

Term 4 starts up on the 12th October (The first week back of the school term.)

Sewing for Success is a charitable programme, so all class fees are treated as donations. Your Koha helps contribute towards the cost of materials, tutors and venue hire. The recommended koha for our 8 week term is $100.00

What your child will learn

  • Using a sewing machine safely and with confidence
  • Threads, needles, and understanding different fabrics
  • Cutting, pinning, and simple construction techniques
  • Reading and following a sewing pattern
  • Core construction and finishing techniques

This term’s project

Each term, students make a brand new project to keep:

  • Term 1, 2026: a cuddly teddy bear pillow
  • Term 2, 2026: a custom coat using our fabric collection
  • Term 3, 2026: a quilting project with patchwork they design themselves
  • Term 4, 2026: a one-of-a-kind t-shirt and matching skirt/pants/shorts

These classes suit children aged 8 to 14 who are brand new to sewing, or who want to build on what they know. Your child will learn hands-on, at their own pace, in a safe, supportive, and creative group.

What it costs
