Sewing creates real, measurable change — for people, communities, and the environment.
Through Sewing for Success programmes, participants gain practical sewing skills that build confidence, independence, and creativity. Many learners leave with the ability to repair, alter, and make garments for themselves and their whānau — skills that last a lifetime and reduce ongoing clothing costs.
Our focus on mending, upcycling, and mindful making helps reduce textile waste by extending the life of clothing and keeping materials out of landfill. Each repaired seam, repurposed fabric, and handmade garment contributes to more sustainable consumption habits.
Just as importantly, we reach people. Sewing for Success brings together children, adults, families, and community groups in welcoming, inclusive spaces where learning happens side by side. Around the sewing table, confidence grows, friendships form, and skills are shared across generations.
Donated Materials, Greater Impact
To support accessibility and sustainability, we gratefully accept donations of fabric and haberdashery. These materials are used across our classes, workshops, and community events, allowing us to reduce costs, minimise waste, and offer low-cost or subsidised opportunities where needed.
Donations help us:
- Keep courses affordable and accessible
- Reduce textile waste through reuse and upcycling
- Ensure quality materials are available for learning and creativity
If you have fabric, notions, or sewing supplies you’d like to donate, we’d love to hear from you.
